Building structures can deteriorate or fail in a variety of ways throughout their lifecycle. Whether a high-rise, residential complex, commercial building, or industrial facility, structures of all sizes should undergo periodic structural inspection, assessment, and investigation to maintain their overall health and safety.

Causes for Structural Deterioration + Failure

Extreme weather, soil movement, water infiltration, thermal changes, environmental factors, overloading, aging, improper maintenance, and material defects can all lead to compromised structural integrity.

When any force acts on a building, that force becomes a load to the structure. Some structural loads can cause stress, deformation, and displacement that may result in damage or even failure depending on the building’s specific design, use, location, and construction materials (steel, concrete, wood, masonry etc.).

When integrity is lost, damage and failure can occur in either a structural component or the entire structure itself if it loses its load-carrying capacity.

Inspection + Investigation Solutions

Early signs of deterioration are not always obvious to the untrained eye. As such, detailed visual, hands-on, and sometimes probe inspections by expert structural engineers are imperative to determine the structural well-being of a building and its individual components.

Our robust structural inspection and investigation services can identify deterioration, perform root cause analysis, and help provide short and long-term remediation, rehabilitation, and repair support.
