Construction-First Thinking
For Smarter, Safer Builds

As construction projects become more ambitious and complex, successfully navigating from concept to completion requires more than just a solid design—it demands smart planning, technical precision, and seamless coordination from the very start. Even the smallest jobs require thoughtful execution to ensure safety, efficiency, and cost control.

Pre-Construction Specialty Services

Pre-Bid Consulting + Value Engineering

We evaluate designs through a construction-first lens to uncover opportunities for improvement—whether that means creating innovating construction solutions, optimizing material use, or introducing more efficient systems.

Our insights help contractors build smarter bids and owners maximize ROI.

Construction Feasibility Studies

We provide early-stage evaluations to determine whether a concept can be executed effectively in the field.

Studies may include:

Peer Reviews

We offer independent, third-party reviews that go beyond code compliance—spotting design conflicts, inefficiencies, or buildability issues early.

These reviews improve constructability and reduce rework, delays, and cost.

Erection Sequencing + Temporary Stability

We help teams plan how a structure will go up—not just how it will stand when complete.

This includes temporary stability analysis, shoring strategies, and sequencing solutions that keep jobsites safe and efficient during construction.

Minimizing Risk, Maximizing Efficiency

Delivering Clarity + Control
in Construction

Through engineering sequencing, logistics planning, temporary stability measures, and more, we help teams reduce risk, stay on schedule, and minimize unnecessary costs—without compromising quality and safety. With experience spanning a wide range of sectors and building types, McLaren delivers the insight and innovation needed to bring even the most challenging projects to life—from the ground up.

Efficient Build Strategies

Planning Construction More Efficiently From The Start
Saves $ in the long run

Our construction engineering team offers comprehensive support across all phases of a project. With early-stage involvement, we help identify potential risks and optimize constructability to create certainty and capture value from the ground up. From pre-construction consulting through final build-out, we work alongside contractors, fabricators, and developers to engineer smarter, more efficient solutions that streamline the construction process. Whether it’s a high-rise building, a complex infrastructure initiative, or a one-of-a-kind specialty structure, we help determine the optimal means and methods for getting the job done.

Optimizing the Lift

Crane Engineering for One Times Square Redevelopment

For the $500M transformation of the home of NYC's New Years Eve Ball Drop, McLaren provided early design-phase support to streamline construction and crane operations. We conducted a feasibility study, developed erection/dismantling plans for the Favco 220 and assist crane, and engineered a custom cantilevered truss system—ensuring safe, efficient crane support with minimal disruption to the site.
Lifting the Landmark

Pre-Construction Engineering for TSX Broadway

As part of the TSX Broadway redevelopment in Times Square, McLaren helped plan the safe 30-foot lift of the historic 1,700-seat Palace Theater. From breaking down oversized steel beams into liftable segments to coordinating temporary supports for the proscenium wall, our pre-construction services laid the groundwork for success.

McLaren’s early input guided key construction decisions—minimizing risk, preserving delicate architecture, and ensuring that every element of the lift was sequenced for both precision and safety.
Reaching New Heights

Iconic Midtown Crane Lift at Tiffany’s

McLaren was brought in early to tackle a major challenge in renovating Tiffany & Co.’s iconic 1940 flagship store: adding a three-story, column-free glass addition atop the original seven-story structure.

We conducted an in-depth feasibility study, exploring multiple crane strategies before developing the optimal solution — lifting a 130-ton crane onto the roof using a massive 500-ton Liebherr LTM 1500 crane. This strategic solution expedited the schedule by months, enabled crane operations during NYC’s Holiday Embargo, and saved the project millions.

McLaren also developed seven crane plans (including five CN applications), designed rooftop dunnage, rigging, and structural reinforcements, and supported steel connection design throughout.
Building Over the FDR

Heavy Lift Engineering for Rockefeller University's River Building

To support Rockefeller University's River Building expansion over the FDR Drive, McLaren developed an erection sequence and crane barge lift strategy for 700-ton prefabricated modules. Our integrated pre-construction services included marine logistics, structural design, and custom stability systems—ensuring safe, precise lifts over an active highway and efficient execution of this landmark over-water project.
