Jennie Jerome Playground, located in the Bronx, underwent a $4.3 million reconstruction as part of New York City’s Community Parks Initiative (CPI), a program that revitalizes local playground and greenspaces in historically underinvested areas. The newly reconstructed playground includes new play equipment, a new spray shower, and updated pavement, lighting, and water supply systems. Improvements also include new shade trees, dense plantings, and green buffers from the nearby Cross Bronx Expressway as well as new seating and picnic areas for community members to enjoy.
Civil + Geotechnical Engineering
We provided civil and geotechnical design services for the Jennie Jerome Playground project and coordinated a team of environmental and electrical experts. Our work included the design of new drainage and sewer systems, the design of a new water supply system and backflow prevention to service the drinking fountains and spray shower, and temporary erosion and sediment control design during construction. This project shows how thoughtful design and infrastructure can directly improve quality of life, especially in dense urban neighborhoods.
Jennie Jerome Playground Ribbon Cutting
Two of our engineers had the honor of cutting the ribbon alongside NYC Parks Commissioner Iris Rodriguez-Rosa and Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson at the Grand Opening on September 2, 2025.
More Park Renovations
Additionally, our team is involved in the ongoing reconstruction of two other Bronx Community Parks Initiative projects, including Dawson Playground, which is currently in construction, and Zimmerman Playground.
