The Brooklyn Tower Construction Engineering

Rising over 1,000 feet, 9 DeKalb Avenue—also known as The Brooklyn Tower—is the tallest building in Brooklyn and the tallest skyscraper outside of Manhattan. Seamlessly integrating the landmarked Dime Savings Bank at its base, the 93-story tower reshapes the borough’s skyline with a bold mix of historic and modern architecture.

Construction Engineering for a Supertall Landmark

Partnering with United Structural Works, Inc., our Construction Engineering team supported critical phases of the tower’s construction by delivering delegated connection design services, crane plans, temporary shoring and construction sequencing strategies, and miscellaneous metals engineering. These services addressed the complex structural and logistical challenges of erecting a supertall tower in a dense urban environment, ensuring safe, efficient, and well-coordinated execution throughout the project.

Complex Steel Framing and Erection Coordination During Construction Of The Brooklyn Tower

Complex Steel Framing and Erection Coordination During Construction

In this image, steel erection is in progress, with framing advancing between the newly constructed concrete structure and the adjacent existing buildings. The crane hook visible above was utilized for ongoing steel placement operations. This portion of the project features a unique framing configuration with skewed, non-orthogonal beams and offset column lines, adding complexity to the delegated connection design required to accommodate the irregular geometry and load paths. Field coordination remained critical, as the framing interfaced tightly with existing construction and demanded precise fit-up to ensure a smooth and efficient erection process.

Precise and Innovative Construction Engineering

From connection design to lifting logistics, The Brooklyn Tower showcases the critical role construction engineering plays in delivering high-rise buildings with precision. Located just one block from One Willoughby Square—where our Building Envelope team engineered the aluminum composite metal paneling across all 34 floors—this iconic structure rises as both a landmark and a testament to the innovation and coordination behind one of New York’s most ambitious building projects.
