NYC Formula ePrix Racetrack

Formula E partnered with McLaren Engineering Group, D’Onofrio General Contractors Corp., the NYC Economic Development Corporation, and The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for the buildout of the inaugural NYC ePrix racetrack at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook. Formula E races resemble a Formula One race, with electricity powering the 20 participating cars. McLaren assisted by providing engineering services for the transformation of a cruise terminal site and its surroundings into a 1.21-mile professional race track for 18,000+ spectators.

ePrix Brooklyn

McLaren’s site/civil and marine teams used creative energy and technical expertise to assist in transforming the industrial maritime complex in Red Hook, Brooklyn into a professional racetrack. The effort modified the complex to incorporate the racetrack layout by installing both temporary and permanent structures, including grandstands, new pavement, security walls, platforms and sidewalks. Additionally, McLaren’s design addressed efficient means to replace site features and facilities after the race – to allow the continued operation of the terminal while allowing the race to return year after year.

In 2018, the race track was expanded to 1.47-miles. McLaren’s site/civil division helped relocate a light pole and acquire permitting for the expansion.
