Exploring Museum Futures

Insights from the MAAM Building Museums Symposium
2024

Last week, our newly appointed Assistant Vice President of Entertainment and curator of immersive experiences worldwide, Steve Bonadonna, attended the MAAM Building Museums Symposium alongside industry leaders to discuss the process, promise, and pitfalls of planning, and managing museum capital building projects.

Mark Sargent of Solid Light set the tone as the introductory speaker for the 3-day event, emphasizing museums’ evolving role as civic spaces. As the only national conference dedicated to best practices associated with constructing new buildings, rehabilitating existing structures, and renovating museum spaces, attendees represented the voices and decision-makers that guide what our cultural institutions look like, feel like and how they function.

As a technical designer, Steve provides a unique understanding of museums and how their physical representations serve our communities, preserve and protect history and culture, uplift our spirits, and enlighten and engage in an increasingly challenging and complex world.
