Excellence in NYC Public Design
Celebrating Two Award-Winning Projects

Landmark Public Projects

As part of the 43rd Annual Awards for Excellence in Design, New York City’s Public Design Commission recognized KCI projects for the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument and World’s Fair Marina Pavilion Structures as outstanding public projects. These recognitions demonstrate the importance of collaboration between city agencies, the community, and multidisciplinary teams of engineers in bringing public projects to life.

Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument

As a subconsultant to WXY Architecture + Urban Design, McLaren, a Division of KCI’s civil, geotechnical, and survey teams are working together to preserve this historic landmark commemorating those who served in the American Civil War.

Last restored in 1960, our work includes designing a new water supply system, adding hose bibs for landscape irrigation, and obtaining NYCDEP permits, including the development of a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) to meet modern design standards and support comprehensive site restoration.

World's Fair Marina Pavilion Structures

Comprised of structures created for the 1939 and 1964 World’s Fairs, this project includes reconstructing the historic pavilion structures and modifying adjacent vehicular and pedestrian circulation within the park to enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

As prime consultant, our civil, structural, and geotechnical teams analyzed and developed repairs for the replacement of existing shade structures and designed intersection improvements and traffic-calming measures adjacent to the site. Our team also worked with landscape architect MKW + Associates to create a comprehensive public space.

Celebrating Collaboration in Public Design
