Live! Hotel and Conference Center – Maryland

McLaren Engineering Group provided full structural engineering and site/civil engineering services for a $200 million expansion on the Live! Casino Maryland hotel in Hanover, MD. The upgrade includes a 310-room luxury hotel tower and event space with restaurants, a spa and additional parking. At 17-stories it is the tallest structure in the county.

McLaren developed the structural design and internally coordinated with numerous site / civil utilities to make the expansion possible and created a cost-effective structural frame without sacrificing safety or appearance. McLaren designed an impressive sloped facade 17-story all-glass tower, a 50,000 square-foot ballroom event center and 50,000 square-feet of below-grade structured parking with 269 spaces.

Parking Lot with Underground Water Quality Facility

McLaren moved an existing roadway adjacent to the west side of the casino about 300 feet to create space for the new hotel. The new 5-acre surface parking lots provide in excess of 500 spaces and was built on top of ground that previously housed a stormwater pond. The building pad underwent extensive ground improvements to solidify the soil before construction could begin.

Open 24/7

All construction and designs were planned to minimally disrupt operations at the 24-hour facility, including re-routing casino traffic so as not to close the casino for any amount of time. McLaren provided extensive permit coordination through MDE and Anne Arundel County.
