The Canarsie Park Shared-Use Path Design, also known as the Canarsie West Trail Connector, extends safe and continuous access between Canarsie Park and the Jamaica Bay Greenway. This 0.6-mile shared-use trail improves connectivity for cyclists and pedestrians traveling between Brooklyn and Queens, traversing at-grade crossings and a highway bridge while integrating restored native plantings along the route.
McLaren delivered comprehensive civil engineering and surveying services supporting the full design and construction of the shared-use path.

Engineers collaborated with NYC Parks and the landscape architect to refine grading, improve drainage, enhance safety, and avoid impacts to the adjacent wetland area. A Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) was prepared in accordance with NYCDEC permit requirements.
Throughout construction, McLaren reviewed contractor shop drawings, responded to RFIs, and performed on-site observations to assist with quality control and ensure conformance with the design intent.
The Canarsie Park Shared-Use Path Design delivers a resilient, accessible, and well-integrated connection between Canarsie Park and the broader Brooklyn greenway network. The completed segment enhances multimodal mobility while supporting the long-term ecological and recreational value of the surrounding parkland.
