Members of the McLaren team recently volunteered at South Orangetown Middle School in Blauvelt, New York for its Cool Careers Corner program. McLaren’s President, Mal McLaren, PE, SECB and Junior Civil and Marine Engineers, Jennifer Cunney and Dennis O’Heney, spoke to 300 registered students about the many cool possibilities an engineering career has to offer.
“So often you see events like this tailored to high school and college aged students, but it was a great experience to be able to talk with the middle schoolers and see their excitement over math and science topics,” said O’Heney. “From robotics to popsicle stick bridges, it was a fun for me to look back on my days tinkering, and I think a good opportunity for these kids to get a glimpse into what a career in engineering may have to offer them.”
