Route 17M Over Railroad Bridge Replacement
McLaren Engineering Group, in association with Prudent Engineering, LLP, is providing full engineering services for the NYSDOT Route 17M Bridge Replacement over the Norfolk Southern/NJ Transit railroad in the Town and Village of Chester, Orange County. The project (D# D038298 / PIN# 8564.29) addresses structural deficiencies in the existing span and delivers a modern 75-year service life bridge that meets current load, clearance, and safety standards.
Scope of Work
McLaren’s bridge division is responsible for comprehensive design and coordination services, including:
- Project development and design approval in accordance with NYSDOT procedures (Phases I–IV).
- Topographic and right-of-way surveys to establish control, obtain digital terrain data, and prepare acquisition maps.
- Preliminary and final bridge design to replace the existing structure with a new, code-compliant span meeting LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
- Geotechnical engineering coordination and foundation design based on subsurface investigations.
- Project management, coordination, and oversight. Providing comprehensive project management services, including progress reporting, cost control, and coordination with all stakeholders. McLaren is overseeing subcontractors, quality control, and assurance throughout all phases of the project, and managing coordination with Norfolk Southern and NJ Transit.
- Construction support services, including review of shop drawings, responses to contractor RFIs, and final inspection.
