Pier 5 Columbus Center Parking Garage

McLaren Engineering Group Team provided the parking layout design along with mechanical, electrical and plumbing services for the Columbus Center Garage at Pier 5 in Baltimore, MD. The garage is a seven-level, 207,000 square-foot double helix parking structure that provides parking for 640 vehicles. Elevated ramps and parking areas were designed using one-way post tensioned concrete slabs and supported on post-tensioned concrete beams.

Parking Garage Design Features

McLaren overcame several challenges on this project, including coordinating a deep foundation system around existing concrete tie-backs. The tie-backs were used to support an existing bulkhead on the east side of the project. McLaren designed the lowest level of the Columbus Center Parking Garage to provide 10-foot clearance for construction equipment should the need arise for repair of the tie-back system.
