McLaren Engineering Group provided structural engineering for the replacement structure of the Intrepid Shuttle tent on the Hudson River in New York City. The original inflatable tent was damaged during Superstorm Sandy. The replacement structure connects to the deck of the Intrepid Ship Museum and is framed with a steel roof.
McLaren served as engineer-of-record for the new tent structure, which was built over the Space Shuttle on the Intrepid. It required precise erection procedures to avoid harming or interfering with the shuttle display. The structure was engineered to withstand high winds and harsh environmental conditions. McLaren worked in conjunction with the specialty contractor to fast-track this project following Superstorm Sandy.
