NYC Disastrous Flooding Mitigation Efforts – ZCFR

Last week, remnants of Hurricane Ida brought disastrous flooding across the Northeast. With future effects of climate change front of mind, the region will need to put emphasis on mitigation projects that can help combat or prevent damage from future storms.

One such effort recently implemented in NYC is ZCFR (Zoning for Coastal Flood Resiliency), a much-needed permanent overhaul of zoning regulations that work in conjunction with flood-resistant construction standards to better support post-disaster recovery and promote long-term resilient solutions for floodplain communities.
