Ferry Terminals at Battery Park City, Hoboken snatch 2008 awards

New York Construction News (NYCN) recently voted the the $70 million Battery Park City Ferry Terminal - designed by McLaren - its Best Public Works Project for 2008. The Terminal is a permanent floating structure, and at more than ¾ of an acre and 1,200 tons, it’s the largest of its kind in the United States. It was installed at its permanent location at Battery Park in June.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey towed the $70 million Battery Park City Ferry Terminal to its permanent location off of the Battery Park City Esplanade on June 7, a major milestone in the construction of the Terminal. With McLaren providing marine engineering services, the Terminal is a permanent floating structure – at more than ¾ of an acre, it’s the largest of its kind in the United States.
New York’s First AquaBus makes a “Splash”

CastellanoMcLaren Engineering Group teamed up with the operators of the Coach USA/Gray Line tour buses and the New York Waterway offer New York City’s first and only amphibious tourist attraction. New York Splash Tours’ AquaBus, as it has been named, officially opened on May 22, 2007.
Visitors are driven throughout the west side of Manhattan, including Times Square and Hell’s Kitchen. They are then driven to a garage sized shed for a brief multimedia experience and history lesson simulating an Atlantic Ocean crossing, before making their way into the Hudson River.
