Design-Build Speeds Repair on New York Route 42
October 24, 2011 - 2:44pm — Robin SmithThanks to an executive order from New York’s governor, the New York State Dept. of Transportation is using design-build on emergency reconstruction of six miles of state Route 42. The Catskills-area stretch suffered flooding during Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.
Restoring Route 42 for Ultster and Greene counties by February is a top priority, says NYSDOT Commissioner Joan McDonald. Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) issued Executive Order 19, allowing NYSDOT to use design-build.

CARLSTADT — River Barge Park, a public riverfront park and marina that has been in the works for years, was dedicated Wednesday by state and local officials who lauded it as a serene jewel within an urban region.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony highlighted two of the park's facilities – a paddle center, which will be used to launch boats and canoes, and the Robert Ceberio Environmental Education Pavilion. They sit on 5.5 acres owned by the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission.

I am saddened by the loss of life and suffering that occurred in Indianapolis this weekend (see video from CNN below). There have been a number of other stage roof collapses over the past few years, and I am sure that many people are asking what can be done about this situation.

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - The Coppola Paving and Landscaping Corporation was awarded the bid for the Dobbs Ferry Waterfront Stabilization Project Wednesday night. Coppola Paving President Eric Coppola was in attendance to answer questions after his company was selected with a bid of $1.378 million.
"This is something that's been in the works for many, many years," said Mayor Hartley Connett.
