McLaren engineers Matthew McCarty, PE, SE, and Matthew Kawczenski, PE, SE, took part in the ASCE Structures Congress last week in Denver, CO. The conference is hosted by the Structural Engineering Institute and highlights state of the art developments in the field of structural engineering. At the conference, Matthew McCarty presented the paper “Innovative Use of FRP in Large Diameter Piles for Vessel Impact,” co-authored by McLaren employee Vahid Zanjani, PE, PhD. The presentation and corresponding paper details the study of a composite anchorage pile system for use in the NYC Citywide Ferry Service project under design by McLaren. The innovative anchorage design utilizes state of the art materials and manufacturing process to allow for more efficient absorption of impact energy from berthing ferry vessels while being more environmentally inert than conventional construction materials.
