Land Surveying Services: Central Park Westside Playgrounds

Project Overview:
McLaren Engineering Group (McLaren) was retained by the Central Park Conservancy to provide services of a licensed land surveyor to develop topographic surveys for seven (7) playgrounds and adjacent landscape, located on the western perimeter of the park along Central Park West.
McLaren's Role:
McLaren provided topographic surveys to support the Central Park Conservancy’s design projects for playgrounds on the west side of Central Park. The purpose of the surveys was to locate play equipment (posts at grade and structure outlines) pavement changes, walls, ramps, curbs, fences, benches, tree locations with diameter at breast height and base elevation, as well as locate visible utilities and incorporate data on subsurface utilities provided by CPC. For uses during design and construction, McLaren provided PK nails near each project area in accordance with NAD83 and oriented to Manhattan Borough north. L1/L2 GPS was used to create control points. Mapping of the surveys were produced in accordance with the Production Standards provided by CPC. After the data was gathered from the field, McLaren performed a comprehensive process to ensure the quality of our work, this includes L1/L2 GPS data post-process using OPUS; Horizontal and Vertical Datum calculations to bring in local control; and calculation reviews and approvals performed by a Senior Land Surveyor, and Final Mapping and Drafting reviews completed by a NYS Licensed Land Surveyor.
