Grand Marais -Overview.jpg

The breakwater in Grand Marais, Michigan reached a 1,000 foot milestone. For over 50 years the town has wanted a breakwater to provide shelter for vessels that are caught in unexpected storms. McLaren performed marine engineering and design services for the construction of a rubble-mound breakwater. The project involved an in-depth investigation of the harbors’ existing deteriorated breakwater and review of available environmental reports, surveys, and previous design by the USACE to determine the characteristics of the harbor and the intended design. In addition to design work in the harbor, McLaren is currently performing construction administration services including, bid phase services, shop and installation drawing review, and construction observations for quality control.
