Last night our President and CEO, Mal McLaren was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Rockland County 19th Annual Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner held by the Boy Scouts of America Hudson Valley Council.

Malcolm G. McLaren, P.E. is the President and CEO of the McLaren Engineering Group, which he founded in 1977. With more than 40 years of experience in the engineering industry, Mr. McLaren has worked on a wide range of projects, from the design of hi-rise buildings, to the underwater inspection of bridges and marine structures, to the design of some of the most innovative and exciting stage riggings for some of today’s recognizable music performers. The McLaren Engineering Group grew from Mr. McLaren’s passion for engineering and scuba diving, and today includes nine technical divisions staffed by over 200 dedicated employees in ten offices from worldwide.
Mr. McLaren earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Cornell University and holds an M.S. in Structural Engineering from Rutgers University. After working at several different engineering firms early in his career, Mr. McLaren started out on his own in 1977, finding his niche in the engineering community by offering hands-on visual inspection, assessment and design services for shoreline structures. Mr. McLaren has watched the McLaren Engineering Group expand from its original headquarters in his basement to its current 25,000 square foot accommodations in West Nyack, NY. He is a current member of a number of professional societies (e.g. including ASCE, The MOLES, and NSPE), is licensed in over 40 states, and serves on the Civil Engineering Advisory Boards at both Cornell and Rutgers University. Locally, he conceived and sponsors the Engineering Expo for the education of high school students, and is a member of the Salvation Army’s Rockland County Advisory Board.
From the original focus on the in-depth underwater inspection of bridges and marine structures, Mr. McLaren has expanded the Marine Division’s services of his company to include complete waterfront structure design and rehabilitation, structural analysis, ocean/coastal engineering, permitting, and ferry terminal design. Additionally, he has established seven other distinct, fully staffed technical divisions that include Structural, Civil, Bridge/Highway/Railway, Forensics, Entertainment Engineering, and full service Surveying.
Mr. McLaren oversees projects from all of his firm’s divisions and remains very much involved in the design process. His notable projects include design and engineering services for the expansion of NYC’s Citywide Ferry Services that includes five (5) new routes and 14 new or upgraded landing sites; the inspection and development of many sites along the East River in Williamsburg, Brooklyn; design and engineering services for the Philly LIVE! Hotel & Casino; the Nyack TAP Program which is a planned Streetscape and Bicycle Pathway Improvement Project; the design/build of Six Bridges in Westchester and Orange Counties for NYSDOT; Structural and Construction Engineering services for the Replacement of the WittPenn Bridge and the Pulaski Skyway; and the inspection, assessment and rehabilitation of Staten Island Homeport into a thriving waterfront community. His work can also be seen at Universal Studios and Disney World, Las Vegas shows, Broadway Theaters and at many touring Concerts and shows, including Beyoncé Formation World tour.
Locally, his firm donated time to create renderings and design for the Rockland County Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial and Monument being displayed in Haverstraw Bay County Park on the Hudson River where his pro bono design for the Rockland County World Trade Center Memorial was constructed.

Thank you to all who showed support on Mal’s great achievement!
