Grand Opening at Kinnally Cove

Kinnally Cove now features an Esplanade and Pedestrian Walkway, along with new shoreline protection.

June 19 marked the successful opening of Kinnally Cove in Hastings-on-Hudson – another project designed and engineered by McLaren Engineering Group.

A 3.2-acre site with the Hudson River to its west, Kinnally Cove originally served the water-dependent industries that were located west of the Hudson River Railroad. Acquired by the Village of Hastings-on-Hudson in 2002 in order to extend McEachron Waterfront Park, McLaren developed the site plan for transforming this piece of landfill into an access point to the Hudson River, particularly for the launching of small craft.

The Cove’s conversion was multi-faceted. McLaren provided marine engineering and inspection services in stabilizing the Cove’s shoreline and design of a floating dock at its south end. In addition, McLaren’s Site/Civil division was responsible for the layout of the Cove – including incorporation of a boardwalk/gangway and small beach.

McLaren also provided permitting services, as the firm coordinated applications with a number of agencies with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of Environmental Protection, and the National Marine Fisheries, among others.

A small evening ceremony brought the project, which began in 2005, to a favorable end. With roughly 100 people in attendance, Village Manager Francis Frobel and Mayor William L. Kinnally, Jr. presented the renovated Cove, cut the ribbon, and granted full access to the now-expanded Park.
