Hayden Planetarium
August 12, 2008 - 12:08pm — mmaseProject Overview:
As the engineers for W & W Glass Company, the curtain wall contractor, McLaren was responsible for providing structural analysis of the glass curtain wall enclosure and the supporting space frame structure for the new building. The six-story glass cube enclosure comprises the largest tension-glass curtain wall in the nation.
The 95-foot-high glass wall is hung from the top of the vertical trusses with the help of tension rods and long posts, and held in place by stainless steel horizontal tension trusses. These horizontal tension trusses are supported by vertical steel trusses spaced 21-ft on center that also support the roof space truss.
